Residential garbage collection is provided in alleys, or if no alley is present, from the front curb. The City of Dallas has provided most residences with a 90-gallon polyethylene resin roll cart for automated garbage collection. The carts are emptied by means of a hydraulic grappler arm mounted on the side of the sanitation truck. Automated collection service reduces the number of employees needed to collect garbage and reduces the risk of employee injuries on the job.

Automated collection service does not allow for the collection of additional household trash not placed inside the roll cart. The 90-gallon cart, picked up twice weekly, has proven adequate in size. Households are encouraged to participate in the residential recycling program to reduce the amount of waste taken to the landfill.

The use of plastic or paper bags to hold the garbage in the cart is optional, although bagged food waste reduces cleanups. A little detergent and a rinse with a garden hose will keep the cart clean and odor free.

Customers who have not received a roll cart for automated service because of alley-space limitations must place household garbage in sealed plastic bags at least 1.3 mils thick, with a maximum size of 33 gallons and 50 pounds maximum weight for twice weekly collection service. Two-ply waterproof trash compactor paper bags are also acceptable. Small brush, cut to 5 feet or less, tied in bundles and weighing less than 50 pounds, will also be picked up.

To find your days of service for Residential Garbage:

  1. Click on the "Interactive City Map" link. (http://maps.dallascityhall.com/)

  2. Enter your address and zip code under the "map a location" heading.

  3. Then, under the "report about a location" heading, check the "Check this box to list property information, city services and other useful information about a point on the map." box.

  4. Click on the "Find Address" box.

Your location will now be displayed on the map, with City services listed to the right. Under "Sanitation Information", you will find the garbage collection days listed for your address.

Brush and Bulky Goods Collection

Once-a-month collection from the front curb includes large limbs, shrubbery, bagged leaves (in sealed bags with a maximum 50 gallon capacity), furniture, appliances, mattresses and box springs. Please place your items out on the front curb for collection no later than 7:00 A.M. the Monday of your pick-up week. It is also important to remember that items should not be set out for pick up earlier than 7:00 A.M. on the Thursday preceding your collection week.

Do not put out for brush collection bagged grass clippings, new construction or remodeling materials such as lumber or roofing materials. Call 311 or (214) 670-5111 when calling from outside the city limits to get a free estimate on our Cost Plus service to pick up construction or remodeling materials. Please note that bricks, concrete, rocks, dirt, paint, oil and hazardous containers are not collected in either the Cost Plus or regular brush and bulky trash collection services.
