President’s Letter

HOA President

Fall is upon us with our return from summer holidays and our children’s return to school. Although summer in Texas will not end for a few more weeks, we do hope you have all enjoyed this rather warm summer break. For our HOA, fall brings the annual membership drive and I would like to encourage everyone to visit our website at www.btbrmchoa.org. Our website offers both on-line and print applications for your convenience. All neighborhood households will be receiving print applications in the mail to make joining even easier! As was the case last year, households joining before October 5th pay $75. After October 5th the membership fee increases to $80. Our HOA needs your support to continue:

  • Providing necessary landscape maintenance,
  • To pay utility bills to fund special projects including minor wall repairs, professional and legal fees that keep us up to date with State and Federal codes
  • To fund social events like spring fling, the holiday party, and children’s parties

Do know the officers and board appreciate your support,
and are looking forward to the coming year!

Spring Fling Follow Up

Spring fling was a wonderful success this year! By our estimation there were approximately 220 individuals in attendance enjoying the food, music, children’s entertainment and wonderful neighborhood company.

We did hear one major complaint this year regarding the shortage of beverages. Your President, Lydia Connor, takes full responsibility as she was in charge of estimating beverage needs. It seems in an attempt to avoid leftovers we erred on the wrong side of the equation. We’ll do better next year. Again, our apologies!

As you know, we hold elections during the spring fling event. Thank you to all those individuals that participated and unanimously voted in our current slate of officers and board members. Participation in our spring elections is important, as is volunteering. There were many of you that offered to serve and we greatly appreciate you all.

Crime Watch Update

As many of you have read in our EAlert messages, some of our neighbors have experienced auto break-ins. We have also recently learned of a rash of criminal activity occurring in a neighboring gated community. Although we have been fortunate of late with respect to criminal activity, we should all take care. Here are a few reminders:

  • Report, report, report! The police need to know what’s happening.
  • Outdoor lights are great, check that your lighting works.
  • Lock all doors, and please, please, please close your garage doors.

Bulk Trash

The city of Dallas began fining homeowners for leaving bulk trash out too early last year and fining continues. Several of our homeowners have been issued fines for these violations. Please remember that bulk trash can go out the Thursday prior to the first Monday of the month. If trash is out any earlier you could be subject to getting a fine. Although most of the landscaping companies working our area are aware of this, simple reminders might be useful.

City Zoning Update

(Article Copied From North Dallas Neighborhood Alliance Publication) – The City of Dallas is proposing changes to the development code (which sets zoning rules) to encourage developers to use a different kind of zoning (called form-based) for their projects rather than the current kind (which is use-based) zoning. During this past year, a committee of neighborhood representatives and developers (appointed by City Council) met to forge a compromise on their differing views of these development code amendments. The committee members came to unanimous agreement on the major points and this compromise was presented to the City Plan Commission which also signed off on the compromise unanimously.

A special Council committee is looking at the recommendations of staff versus those from Plan Commission. To get further information on these issues or to register an opinion, please contact your Councilmember or the Dallas City Manager.

An aside – The new Hg bulbs should be disposed of at the Plano Rd/Forest Lane facility just like batteries! The city is planning a recycling roundup some time this month to collect hazardous waste/computers. They are also planning a shredding event in the future. Check their website for details.
