Can I join the HOA at any time?
Yes. The membership period is from September for one
year. You must own a home in the Bent Trail / Briar Ridge / Moss Creek
additions to be eligible for HOA membership. Dues are currently $75 per
year.
Can I advertise in the HOA directory?
Yes. We encourage members and local businesses to
advertise in the directory. This helps to offset the costs of printing
the directory. Sorry, but for privacy reasons only members can get a
copy of the directory.
What is involved in volunteering for the HOA?
HOA volunteers help in a number of different ways.
Some help with sending out postal mail-outs. Others help us with the
membership drive or with our directory or are interested in
participating as part of the HOA board. Most of us are busy and can only
contribute a limited amount of time. The important aspect is to meet
people, have fun and help us in an area that you have expertise or
interest for whatever time you can afford.
Why don't I always hear about HOA events?
Postage is expensive and it is time-consuming to mail
information out on a frequent basis. If you provide us with an email we
preferentially use this method to communicate with you. Please give us
an email that you check at least occasionally. For those of you without
email we will still mail out important information. If you have access
to a computer please use our web site to get the most up to date
information.
Does the HOA exercise any control over street repairs?
Unfortunately no. As citizens living within the City
of Dallas we are entitled to report pot holes and defects in any city
maintained structures, such as cracked or subsiding sidewalks. We
encourage you to report these kinds of problems. The City will respond
to these requests but usually has a significant backlog, so don't delay
in reporting these kind of problems. The HOA has little direct influence
over street widening projects, lane closings etc. We are however able to
influence the City to employ speed bumps or street signs at key
locations.
How do I find out the rules about putting up a fence?
The City of Dallas gets enough questions about this
that they have a web page just to address this issue. Please see:
http://dallascityhall.com/code_compliance/Fences.html
Our recommendation on this or any other construction
on your property is to get a permit to build prior to starting
construction. The City is within its rights to order us to take down
anything that we build that does not meet code. Another thing to bear in
mind is that previous fences are not always built along the correct
property line. Check your plat to locate your property line prior to
building a new fence. The City can provide this information if you
cannot find these records.
