NEEDS YOU! |
Our neighborhood VIP program has been inactive for some time despite the
fact that we have many trained volunteers. The program needs a
committed Chairman to take charge and bring our program back to
life. Any individual interested in reviving our VIP program should contact
Lydia Connor, 972-267-6034, or Susan Quante,972-250-2597, for detailed
information. Volunteers in Patrol programs in several surrounding
neighborhoods have had positive impacts on neighborhood crime. Although we
are a low crime area, we experience periodic episodes of vandalism, and
break-ins. Please help us keep our neighborhood safe by volunteering
to be our VIP Chairman today!
WHAT IS VIP?
VIP is a non-confrontational neighborhood patrol program designed to reduce
the opportunity for crime - providing more eyes and ears for the police. VIP
is supported by the Dallas police department and has proven to reduce crime
by up to 85% in some neighborhoods. The patrols are randomly scheduled using
volunteer vehicles which are distinguishable by a yellow flashing light and
VIP door signs.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Volunteer patrols look for crime opportunities such as an open garage door
or pool gate, broken windows, and suspicious persons, etc. The patrols’
first response will be to telephone the homeowner (if on record) and in
critical cases report directly to the police. Volunteers are not allowed to
leave their vehicle.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A VIP?
Volunteers apply to the DPD for acceptance into the program. Following
background checks, accepted applicants receive 7 hours training from DPD and
civilian personnel.
WHAT HAS YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD VIP DONE SO FAR FOR YOU?
- Have 25 certified members for patrol
- Had an average of 5 patrols per month starting in June
- Designed alley address signs to aide emergency vehicles in quickly
locating your home during a time of need
- Designed and posted street signs to warn criminals of the
neighborhood patrols
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
More volunteers to patrol and help reduce crime and vandalism in our
neighborhood.
